Thyroid Disorders


The most common thyroid disorders include hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Having hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can be both unpleasant and uncomfortable, but these thyroid conditions can be managed if properly diagnosed and treated. The first step is checking thyroid function with checking free T4, free T3, reverse T3, TSH, total T3, and thyroid antibodies.

HYPERthyroidism:

Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which your thyroid makes too much of the thyroid hormone called thyroxine. Your thyroid controls your metabolism.  Hyperthyroidism can speed up your metabolism to above-normal levels.

Common symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

  • Rapid weight loss

  • Excessive sweating

  • Insomnia

  • High blood pressure

  • A rapid or irregular heartbeat

  • Eye sensitivity

  • Anxiety

  • Diarrhea

HYPOthyroidism:

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid makes too little of thyroid hormone called thyroxine.  Since thyroid controls your metabolism, hypothyroidism can slow your metabolism to below normal levels.

Common symptoms of hypothyroidism can include:

  • Weight Gain

  • Constipation

  • Sluggishness

  • Fatigue

  • Dry, flaky skin

  • Slow heartbeat

  • Thinning Hair
